Vocabulary
Vocabluary is the group of words known by a person. Most vocabluary is learned indirectly. Some must be taught directly and with specific content, such as science, math, etc. Students can develop vocabulary using word learning strategies.
- Teach specific words before reading
- Extend instruction on vocabulary
- Repeated exposure in many contexts
- Semantic Mapping- concept maps
Types of Vocabulary:
Listening Vocabulary- words we need to know to understand what we are hearing
Spealing Vocabulary- words we use when we speak
Reading Vocabulary- words we need to kow to understand what we read
Writing Vocabulary- words we use in writing
